FAQ

Is SHA-512 secure?

Yes — SHA-512 is part of the SHA-2 family and is currently considered secure for integrity checks and most cryptographic uses, with a larger digest than SHA-256.

Should I use SHA-512 instead of SHA-256?

Both are currently considered secure. SHA-512 produces a longer digest and can be faster on 64-bit hardware; SHA-256 is more common in checksum listings. Use whichever the source you're verifying against provides.

How long is a SHA-512 hash?

512 bits, shown here as 128 hexadecimal characters.

Is my text or file uploaded anywhere?

No — the SHA-512 hash is calculated locally in your browser using the browser's own cryptographic API.
