FAQ
Is MD5 secure?
No — MD5 is useful for checksums and legacy compatibility, but it is not recommended for security-sensitive password or cryptographic applications. Known collision attacks mean it should not be relied on against a deliberate attacker.
What is MD5 still good for?
Detecting accidental file corruption, matching files against an older system that only publishes MD5 checksums, and general-purpose deduplication where security isn't a concern.
How long is an MD5 hash?
128 bits, shown here as 32 hexadecimal characters.
Is my text or file uploaded anywhere?
No — the MD5 hash is calculated locally in your browser.
