FAQ
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No — the PDF page images never leave your device; OCR runs locally in your browser tab using the open-source Tesseract engine.
Does OCR need an internet connection?
The first time you run OCR (or the first time you use a new language), your browser downloads the free, open-source Tesseract engine and that language's data — a few megabytes — directly from its public distribution servers, and caches it for next time. Your PDF content is never part of that download; only the OCR engine itself is fetched.
Why is OCR slow?
Optical character recognition is computationally intensive, and it all runs on your own device's CPU rather than a server. A multi-page document, a high resolution, or an older device will all take longer.
How accurate is the result?
Accuracy depends heavily on scan quality, resolution, skew, and font. Clean, high-resolution, well-aligned scans of common fonts recognize best; low-quality or handwritten scans may have significant errors.
Does this produce a searchable PDF?
This tool provides the recognized text as copyable/downloadable TXT. Reliably overlaying invisible recognized text back onto the original PDF page (a true "searchable PDF") is not implemented, since it cannot be done reliably for every document — rather than fake this, the tool sticks to accurate text output.
