Will this affect my line breaks?
No — only tab characters are converted; line breaks are always left exactly where they are.
Can it also clean up trailing spaces while it's at it?
Yes — turn on 'remove trailing whitespace' to strip any spaces or tabs left at the end of each line after the conversion.
