Sitemap Checker
Enter a sitemap URL or paste XML sitemap content to validate its structure — <urlset> and <sitemapindex> support, missing or duplicate URLs, invalid <lastmod>/<changefreq>/<priority> values, and the sitemap protocol's size and URL-count limits.
Most third-party sites block this kind of direct cross-origin request. If fetching fails, switch to "Paste source instead".

FAQ
What's the difference between a sitemap and a sitemap index?
A regular sitemap (<urlset>) lists actual page URLs. A sitemap index (<sitemapindex>) lists other sitemap files instead — used when a site has more URLs than fit in one sitemap (the protocol caps a single sitemap at 50,000 URLs and 50MB uncompressed).
Does being in a sitemap guarantee a page is indexed?
No. A sitemap is a hint that helps search engines discover URLs — it does not force indexing, and a URL can be indexed without ever appearing in a sitemap, or listed in a sitemap without being indexed.
What does an invalid <lastmod> look like?
The sitemap protocol expects a W3C-style date or date-time (for example 2026-09-12 or 2026-09-12T10:00:00Z). A different format, or an impossible date, is flagged as a warning.
Why does this tool flag duplicate URLs?
Every <loc> in a sitemap is expected to be unique. Duplicates usually indicate a bug in however the sitemap is generated.
Can I check a sitemap that isn't publicly reachable yet?
Yes — paste its raw XML content directly instead of a URL, which also works when a live fetch is blocked by the target server.
