Online Stopwatch
A precise browser stopwatch. Elapsed time is calculated from real timestamps, not a counter, so it can't drift even if this tab is inactive or throttled.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Space — Start / Pause / Resume
- L — Lap
- R — Reset
No laps yet. Start the stopwatch and press Lap (or L) to record one.
About this tool
This stopwatch records a start timestamp using the browser's monotonic high-resolution timer (performance.now()) and always computes elapsed time as now − start (plus any prior paused segments), instead of incrementing a counter on each tick. That is what keeps it accurate through tab switches, rendering delays, and browser throttling.
How to use it
- Press Start (or Space) to begin timing.
- Press Lap (or L) while running to record a split — the table shows lap time and total elapsed time.
- Press Pause (Space) to pause, Resume (Space) to continue, or Reset (R) to clear everything.
- Use "Copy lap data" to copy every recorded lap as tab-separated text.
FAQ
Does this stopwatch stay accurate if I switch tabs?
Yes. Elapsed time is calculated from the actual start timestamp and the current high-resolution timer reading (performance.now()), not by adding a fixed amount on every tick. So even if the tab is inactive, throttled, or the browser delays rendering, the moment you look back the displayed time is exactly right.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Space starts, pauses, or resumes the stopwatch. L records a lap while running. R resets. Shortcuts are ignored while typing in a text field.
Is my lap data saved or sent anywhere?
No. Laps exist only in this page for the current session — nothing is saved to your browser or sent to a server. Use "Copy lap data" before refreshing if you want to keep it.
