Countdown Timer
Count down to any date, time, and timezone. Remaining time is always computed from real timestamps, so it stays exact even if this tab is inactive.

About this tool
You choose a target date, time, and timezone (or a quick preset). The tool resolves that wall-clock moment to an exact instant using the timezone's real UTC offset, then continuously computes remaining = target − now. Because it never adds or subtracts on a tick, a slow render or an inactive tab can never make it drift.
How to use it
- Pick a target date, time, and timezone, or click a quick preset.
- Press Start to begin the countdown.
- Use Pause/Resume to freeze or continue the display, Restart to reapply the same target from now, or Edit target to change it.
- Press "Copy shareable link" to send the same countdown to someone else.
Notes on accuracy
Elapsed/remaining time is calculated from timestamps (not by counting ticks), so it stays correct even if this tab is inactive, throttled, or the device sleeps briefly.
Countdown and comparison targets are resolved against the selected IANA time zone's current UTC offset. Presets that add whole days ("Tomorrow", "Next week") add 24-hour periods and do not re-resolve across a daylight-saving transition.
FAQ
Does the countdown stay accurate if I leave the tab open in the background?
Yes. The remaining time is always calculated as target time minus the current time, not by subtracting one second on every tick — so it is exact the instant you look back at the tab, however long it was inactive.
What does Pause actually do?
Pause freezes the number on screen — it does not move your target date and time. This is useful for a screenshot or a presentation pause; it is not a way to extend a real deadline. Press Resume to continue the live countdown.
Can I share this countdown with someone else?
Yes — press "Copy shareable link" once the countdown is running. The link encodes the target date, time, timezone, and the "allow negative" setting in the URL itself; nothing is stored on a server.
What happens after the countdown reaches zero?
By default it shows "Countdown Complete" and, unless your browser blocks autoplay audio, plays a short completion sound. Turn on "Allow counting past zero" in Advanced settings if you want it to keep counting as elapsed time instead.
