Electrical Unit Converter

Convert the everyday quantities of electrical and electronic work — voltage, current, resistance, power, energy, charge, capacitance, inductance, and frequency — between their metric-prefixed units. Choose a category, then convert.

About this converter

Each category uses its coherent SI unit as the base — volt, ampere, ohm, watt, joule, coulomb, farad, henry, hertz — and the other entries are decimal multiples (a microfarad is 10⁻⁶ farad). The converter scales your value through the base unit.

This is a unit converter, not a circuit simulator: it changes the units of one quantity. The formulas below are for context only.

How to use it

  1. Choose a category — Voltage, Current, Resistance, Power, Energy, Charge, Capacitance, Inductance, or Frequency.
  2. Type the value and pick the from and to units (for example µF to nF).
  3. Read the result, Copy it, or Swap the direction.

The result updates as you type — there is no Calculate button. Use Swap to reverse the two units, and Reset to return to the defaults.

Reference: how the quantities relate

  • Ohm’s law: V = I × R (volts = amperes × ohms)
  • Power: P = V × I = I² × R = V² / R (watts)
  • Energy: E = P × t — 1 Wh = 3600 J, 1 kWh = 3.6 MJ
  • Charge: Q = I × t (coulombs = amperes × seconds)
  • Capacitor charge: Q = C × V · Inductor voltage: V = L × dI/dt

Metric prefixes used here: pico 10⁻¹², nano 10⁻⁹, micro 10⁻⁶, milli 10⁻³, kilo 10³, mega 10⁶, giga 10⁹.

FAQ

Which electrical quantities can I convert?

Voltage, current, resistance, power, energy, charge, capacitance, inductance, and frequency. Each is a category with its SI unit and the usual metric-prefixed multiples (milli, micro, nano, pico, kilo, mega, giga).

How many nanofarads are in a microfarad?

1 µF = 1000 nF = 1,000,000 pF. Capacitor markings often mix these, so the converter makes the step explicit.

Does this calculate Ohm’s law or power?

No. It only converts a single quantity between units — it is not a circuit solver. The formula section lists Ohm’s law (V = I × R) and power (P = V × I) for reference, but you enter and read one quantity at a time.

What is 1 kilowatt-hour in joules?

1 kWh = 3,600,000 J = 3.6 MJ. 1 watt-hour = 3600 J.
